Zootourism.com review: Old Faithful Geyser of California 1299 Tubbs Lane Calistoga, CA 94515 United States 707-942-6463 http://www.oldfaithfulgeyser.comCalifornia’s Old Faithful Geyser is a nice piece of family-friendly goodness in the midst of wine country. The geyser itself is a nice attraction and has some educational touches as well. However, between eruptions of the geyser, the folks at the attraction have added additional things to see in the form of some animals here and there on the property. There are a few llamas in a field that may come up to check out the visitors. There’s a small herd of Jacob 4-horned sheep, some in a far-off field, and some in a neat little feeding pen (though they may or may not bother to come up for feedings). The star though is a herd of Tennessee fainting goats. While they don’t actually faint (when excited, they have a small muscular seizure), they indeed can appear to pass out when scared. Nonetheless, it’s a nice little addition here. Incidentally, the owners ask that visitors don’t specifically try to scare the goats – they get enough of that. As it happens, most of the goats are jaded enough from a few years of off-and-on display that they’re unlikely to be scared in the first place, and no fainting shall happen – just a dirty look. | |
